Starting sports with children

Growing up, my parents would never let me join any sports teams other the little league. I remember in kindergarten asking my parents to join the wrestling team and they would not let me they told me that i had to wait till middle school to start any sports. I asked my parents about it a little while ago and asked them why they wouldn't let me. They said because they were afraid that the coaches may teach me just to win instead to love the sport. I still feel a little bummed that i never got the chance to do sports when i was real young, but i do understand why my parents did what they did. I'm wondering what do you feel about kids starting sports at early ages?

  1. I feel that parents are concerned with their childs safety. I mean what parent just sends their child out on the side walk and says "see ya, have a great first day at kindergarten?" No one wants to leave their child, however, I feel that at a young age is where the child is so open to trying to new things. That parent needs to put their child in as many things as possible that way the child will be able to choose what actually what to take part in. The parent should not force their child. If they start their child in a sport, it should be multiple sports, however, the parent needs to not overload all at once. I feel that the child will learn so much and become more social and learn to share and work well with other teammates. I think it's an awesome idea to start the child out at a young age. Sorry, that you didn't get the opportunity at a young age. But, now that you know how you feel, you can make the change for your child in the future!
